Birmingham 0-1 Man Utd.

29 09 2007

Okay we got a win today against Birmingham and a much needed 3 points again but I am still not impressed of how we are winning to be honest.Lets look at a few of the points today, then maybe you will understand what I mean.

Why the fuck was Rooney defending half the game?

This man should be always up front, keeping their defenders from joining any attack and keeping them on edge, thats what he’s good at, not back defending, it makes us look desperate and we are better than that.

What was wrong with Patrice Evra? – Too many mistakes today, maybe just a bad day because the last few games, he has been so great for us.

What has happened to our flair and our counter attacking football? – Boring to watch right now.We used to be able to put together so many passes and keep possession for ages, it would wind teams up, trying to get the ball away from us, now they seem to be getting equal amounts of possession and forcing errors from us.

Have we become too predictable and teams now know and understand our play? – I think we have really, we need more options, different types of play, to keep the opposition always on their toes.

Giggsy Maybe too much responsiblity now lies on his shoulders because he is the most experienced player in the team, this doesn’t allow Ryan to be his usual free flowing self, this guy is the expert on wandering and he does that so well, he needs to get back to that and quickly.

Why are we constantly playing the long ball at the moment, when all we have are Rooney and Tevez up front, who are not the tallest to aim at?

Our game has always been won in the midfield, this is the area we are losing right now, allowing too much pressure to get through to our defence, this has to stop and we need to regain control of the midfield if we are to win more matches, yes we can say but we have Hargreaves to come back but hang on a minute and think, we still have Carrick and Scholes, they were there last season too and helped us win the title, as much as people might not like him, Fletcher really helps with his constant running and holding up the midfield and that helps us win that middle ground and helps stop the ball going back to defence all the time.

Please dont tell me Saha is possibly our saviour, yes he has his moments but he is just one option that we can play at times and remember last season we didn’t have him at all and we had goals aplenty, we need more options besides his ability.

There seems to be a fear in our camp right now, fear of losing, making mistakes, what has happened to our no fear, gung ho approach at United.

Now the positives from todays game, not that many but here goes.

Carlos Tevez is finally finding his form and the guy is actually starting to unnerve players, whenever he got the ball it showed what they thought of him because two or more would challenge him for the ball, thats good, he’s now drawing defenders onto him allowing others more freedom.Alot of play went through him today, so he’s starting to fit and other players are now relying on him, so thats a great sign.

Wes Brown Played a blinder again today, really held his own on the right and moved up to support Ronaldo really well.

Thomas Kuczsak came on for VDS and saved us from a possible own goal from Rio, did really well.

Ronaldo cracking goal from him, saved us yet another embarrassing day away at Birmingham, although he did seem very isolated today and should have been given more of the ball but he did really great for us again, as we come to expect from Cristiano and are seldom disappointed by his committment.

Nemanja Vidic, absolutely brilliant, is awareness is getting better and better as the games go on, really reading the play well.

The United fans that visited Birmingham today, you did yourselves proud, we couldnt hear the Birmingham fans, so well done guys.

Full Time Man Utd 0-2 Coventry

26 09 2007

You have to ask why SAF didnt play his best players against Coventry, the answer is very simple.

He is not interested in this cup and putting all his efforts into the premiership, the champions league and possibly the FA Cup.

No disrespect to Coventry they played well but then again they didnt play the real Manchester United, with the side that played on sunday, they wouldnt have had it so easy.

Having said all this, the youngsters do need games and I guess this is one way of them learning to operate as a unit and experiencing the ups and downs of competitive football, albeit the Carling Cup.

Still on a brighter note, for those fans in the automatic ticket scheme (myself included), will save some money.

Thoughts on yesterday at Old Trafford.

24 09 2007

What we witnessed yesterday was a bit more like the Manchester United we know and love.

Good passing game, totally outclassing Chelsea, before even Mikel was sent off, they were pinned back in their own half for most of the game.

The goal by Tevez was a real good one, just nipping in front of Cech and sneaking it past him at the last minute, pure class.
Old Trafford went wild and the little man got that much needed first goal, here’s to many many more Mr Tevez and I think he just got a little bit closer to the fans hearts, especially scoring against the rent boys.

It was kind of ironic really because the advertising boards just flashed up Tevez to score the next goal 6/1 and bang, in it went lol (you got that one right, Bet Fred).

Personally I didnt think it was going to be a classic game but I was proved wrong and thankfully so, just hope I am always wrong if we can score like that again.

Well we all know, how close previous encounters with Chelsea have gone, usually alot closer and very little to choose from either side.

Well Fergie you won that mind game, nice one.

The second goal was just what was needed, penalty or not, it was just what Old Trafford wanted, the fans needed something to gloat about again, hey lets face it, moral is well and truly lifted again.

Louis Saha stepped up,after not long coming on and woo hoo, we are 2-0 up and not long to play.

All in all a much better performance from United, yeah okay Chelsea were missing Lampard and Drogba but I am not sure they would have made much more of a difference anyway yesterday.

The argument might continue about whether Mikel should have got a red card or not, (who cares we dont lol) either way Chelsea would have been down to 10 men anyway, cos you can certainly bet if the ref hadn’t already sent him off and possibly making the wrong decision, Joe Cole would have gone anyway for the two footed challenge afterwards.

The effect of Mourinho leaving/sacked whatever, certainly has had an effect on Chelsea but they will bounce back, well if they have the same bounceback ability United have, so dont write them off just yet.

The only good thing I saw about Chelsea yesterday was the fans and their banner, which was a nice touch and a dig at the Chelsea management, it said “Jose Mourinho, simply the best”.

But I hate to say it Chelsea, our banner was alot better than yours lol but aren’t they always, me biased nooooooo lol.

It took me til about 12 midnight to get home again afterwards but worth every minute of the journey.

Our fans can stand up with pride today, not just from the win but because, they sang their hearts out and really got behind the boys, which helped make the atmosphere a really good one and it was equally as nice to walk back to the car and see lots of happy and smiling fans, even though it was raining.

And finally, maybe just maybe we shut up a few critics with yesterday’s result as well, showing that if you write us off we come back and bite you in the ass.

COME ON YOU REDS.

Jose Mourinho for England Manager?

21 09 2007

Hey he’s available.

You have to agree no matter what team you support, he could do that job and do it really well.

Yeah there might be a clause in his contract, not to sign for another premiership team for a while but this would be different.

And lets face it, he would do a lot better job than the past few managers for England.

So if I was the F.A, I would be flying off to Portugal to see him and pretty damn quick.

Well “The Special One” has gone….

20 09 2007

……… who will fill his shoes at Stamford Bridge?

Looking around the managerial world of football today, is there anyone free to take on the role of Chelsea boss?

Probably more to the point, who wants the job, knowing he has to contend with the interfering Abramovich.

As much as we gave Jose some stick, (lets face it, he did ask for it at times) I think we can all agree, he did bring something different to the premiership, he was certainly a character within the beautiful game and there isn’t many of them if you look around and we the fans need them, whether we are taking the piss or singing their praises, they are much needed focus point for the game of football.

Yes I am a Manchester United fan and yes I have taken the piss out of him many many times but even I have to concede the man is a good manager and truthfully,as much as it pains me to say it, he would be a great replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson, when he retires, he has some very similar ideas about football and the way it should be played, he keeps his thoughts very close to his chest, able to hold his own, with the critics and yet still be loved by the fans.

So its a sad loss for the premiership, yet another victim of outside money, doing all the talking and making the decisions in the backroom and sometimes over the head of the manager.

Sporting Lisbon v Manchester United

18 09 2007

With both sides looking to get their European campaign off to a winning start, the clash between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United could be essential to both teams’ prospects. Here we compare the teams in three key areas.

MANAGERS

Sir Alex Ferguson has been the dominant figure in English football for what seems like a lifetime and his collection of silverware makes him one of the most decorated coaches in Europe.

Sir Alex FergusonSir Alex Ferguson has reached the Champions League final just once in his time in charge

Last season’s capture of the Barclays Premier League title last season marked a genuine return to form after losing ground to Chelsea but Europe represents another challenge altogether.

Having won the competition in dramatic fashion in 1999, United’s record in recent years has not been impressive – something they will be eager to rectify this year.

Sporting boss Paulo Bento – a former Portugal international – is still in his infancy as a manager after learning his trade with the club’s youth team.

His domestic record is good but the Champions League presents a different level of competition.

FORM

Bento will be happy with his team’s start to the the SuperLiga season, with three wins from four matches.

Their only setback came after a goalkeeping error allowed champions Porto victory but consecutive wins – and clean sheets – leave them in a good position.

The Red Devils have not enjoyed their most impressive start to a campaign, dropping points in each of their first three matches, including a derby defeat to Manchester City.

They have tightened up since, three 1-0 wins in a row suggests their attacking play is not yet up to its usual vintage.

EUROPEAN PEDIGREE

United have won the competition twice, with 1999 providing the recent high, while they have also claimed the Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 1991.

Their form has been under par in recent years – notwithstanding a remarkable 7-0 win over Roma last season – and a semi-final berth is the minimum target this term.

Sporting have less European silverware in the trophy cabinet, with a 1964 Cup Winners’ Cup triumph and a second-placed finish in the 2005 UEFA Cup their major achievements

Rooney to face Sporting.

Rooney set to face Sporting

Rooney: To face Sporting

Wayne Rooney is likely to feature in Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League tie with Sporting Lisbon, but Mikael Silvestre is expected to be out for several weeks.

Sir Alex Ferguson resisted the temptation to pick Rooney against former club Everton on Saturday, with the striker only back in training for a week after a foot injury.

But Ferguson admits the England international should be involved in the club’s opening Champions League group game with Sporting on Wednesday.

“He will be fit for Wednesday, we have taken medical advice and he only started training on Monday,” said Ferguson.

“And after only five days he is a bit short of fitness, he trained today and will train again tomorrow, and through until Wednesday.”

Silvestre injury

But Silvestre is likely to miss the Sporting test after being stretchered off in the first half of the 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

The French defender appears to have suffered ligament damage in his knee, with Ferguson awaiting the results of a scan.

“We will send him for a scan now, but it didn’t look good to me,” added Ferguson.

“Our medical people are looking at it now. It looks like it’s his knee that is hurt.

“We’re getting a few (injuries) at the moment, but we will just have to get on with it.”

Everton 0-1 Man Utd (Vidic goal)

England 3-0 Russia and results from Europe.

12 09 2007

Finally nice to see England play well against some decent opposition, maybe just maybe, Steve McClaren got it right at last.

2 great goals from Micheal Owen and a third from Rio Ferdinand, moves England to second in the table just below Croatia, who England meet at Wembley in November .

A lot of good play tonight, everyone doing their job well, I have to admit Gareth Barry and the Steve Gerrard partnership is working really well, makes you think, whether Lampard should play again, at the same time as Gerrard, seems to be working, so why change it, well at least for now anyway.

Emile Heskey again played a blinder, winning most of the aerial balls and helped in the making of Michael Owen’s first goal.

A really positive game tonight, gives us all hope, that we can perform on the world stage and hold our own against many teams.

Just wondering what will happen when Wayne Rooney, Owen Hargreaves and Frank Lampard return to the side after their injuries, its going to cause alot of problems for McClaren, who does he pick?

Still it’s a good dilemma for the England manager to have for a change.

Also Scotland beat France away from home 1-0 and see them top the group, great news for the Scots, nice to see them doing well also.

All the results from tonights games.

Rooney back for Everton game.

11 09 2007

Wayne Rooney has stepped up his recovery from his broken metatarsal and should be fit to face his old club Everton on Saturday. The England star is reportedly running freely as he undergoes remedial work at United’s Carrington training complex.
